I know that he’s not a minority monster, but could we one day get Fred Aura’s story? His last question made me wonder… Is he from our world? Or a world like our world? Is that why he’s always exploring? Is he looking for a way back? Or is he not looking for a way back, maybe he’s just like, “This new world is amazing, I must see ALL of it!”
Loved how this wasn’t the usual ‘Oh you poor sweet summer child’ misunderstandings, and more a knock at our own world’s shitty way of doing things. A definitely refreshing change.
King Monarch has to be one of my favourites, so far!
Not the best picture but: http://treknews.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/chris-pine-kirk-chair.jpg pretty sure this is what you’re thinking of. I didn’t notice the resemblance until you said it and just… “Oh, I know that pose” XD
I think this one might be my favorite yet. It’s so perf. 8D
I think the ex-princess title is meant to reflect his previous role more than his assigned-at-birth gender. I’m not sure if that makes it okay or not, though.
It’s a fair point, but I’m treating princess as a job title more than a reflection of gender- it’s more poking fun at how binary our names for monarchs are than a barb to say he’s actually ‘female’ underneath because he used to be a princess.
Like all things with trans people it depends on the person and context- here it’s clear that he’s happy with calling his past self a Princess and so it’s a self applied title.
Have to agree with Lil, “ex-princess” really bothers me too. Feels disrespectful. Especially with the placement of ‘the’. “The Ex-princess”, not “The King Monarch”. You understand what I’m trying to say?
As an actual transman I don’t find this funny, namely the joking about how they have magic so they can avoid all the struggle of real life. It just feels depressing. Like, thanks for reminding me how much my life sucks and how difficult it is to be trans.
Yeah, it didn’t make me laugh either. The king (as a trans person) shouldn’t laugh about other trans people suffering but that’s how it comes across.
I love the other comics, though.
This is one of the darker comics of the lot- while I love drawing comics that are positive and correct stereotypes sometimes you have to draw something that acknowledges that sometimes something does just suck.
Trans people not only have to deal with social stigma, but body dysphoria, the type that there isn’t a magical fix for. This is a comic about acknowledges this pain and doesn’t pretend that everything is happy and rainbows.
Is it just me or is that codpiece REALLY suggestive? >.>
A slightly malicious hint at the King’s previous gender? Given that comment about taking the throne ‘as the rightful King’, and medieval/fairytale gender inequality in general, it seems to me like he’s saying ‘Ha ha, I’m the King NOW, but you’ve got an (ex) PRINCESS on the throne! LOOK AT MY MANGINA!’ (Honestly I can’t STOP looking at it…)

I like the double pun on monarch and fairy with this one, also the colour scheme harkens back to Tom’s Story.
Yeah, thought it to be very smart indeed. You rock, Tab.
This king is quite gorgeous, by the way ! :D

That last panel looks really familiar, but I can’t quite think of what it reminds me of.

Ever played Skyrim? The Jarls tend to sit like this on their thrones.
I’ve never seen Star Trek, so that wasn’t it. And I don’t play Skyrim either. That picture is so familiar and yet I can’t place where from!
Does anyone else find his beard incredibly sexy? Anyone? Just me?
I’m not happy about this one. The other minority monsters are great, but calling a trans man “ex-princess”? I don’t think it’s accurate or okay.

Transman here. I LOVED this one.
