Help finish the Gender Nebula!
Hiya, it’s getting close to London MCM comic con, which means it’s time for a new t-shirt! This is a design I’ve been experimenting with and after some feedback from social media I’m ready to make it into a vote!
What colours should I go for?
I’ll send the design to the printer next week because I can’t WAIT to have this in my greedy hands, and I’ll be offering pre-orders up soon so people can guarantee their sizes.
I’m a bit annoyed to see that among this said “queer” community of people coming here and voting, a big majority voted the sterotypical cultural colours “man = blue, female=red/pink” …
I think that kind of promote stereotypes, which it’s not, obviously, the goal here. Deconstructing those “cliches” by changing colour, like for instance : male red, female yellow and neutral blue (primary colours allowing a large rainbow spectrum…) is interesting since it shows that “colors don’t have gender”…
I’m so sick of seeing kids on blue/pink bicycle “matching” their (assigned) gender… >_>
And well, I’m french so the blue-white-red (in this order) thing reminds too much of our flag lol.
I’m really disappointed that a majority of people, even here, seems to go blindly with gender-related-stereotypes… :/
the reason i chose the first option was not for the typical female = red, male = blue, but for the neutral = yellow, since that’s our (gender non-conforming people’s) representative color. like t, i would actually prefer male red, female blue, neutral yellow; i like the idea of going against the stereotypical colors assigned to the male and female genders, but i want to keep the neutral yellow (to represent the genderqueer community).
i’m not voting to perpetuate stereotypical colors; even if i were, that wouldn’t make me less queer?
So, uh, motivation for my preferences, if you want them?
I don’t like C, because not only is that the French flag, turn it sideways and it’s the Dutch flag. I literally can’t look at it without thinking about those flags. It’s a personal association, but there you go. Another important reason: I really love the spectrum effect you get with three primary colours. Really really love it.
Of the two colourful ones I prefer B because it’s not blue-male pink-female. I know it’s probably more obvious to the casual seer-of-your-shirt when the colours are arranged conventially, but that’s kind of the point, isn’t it? This isn’t about the conventional male and female as opposites and only options. I would personally like it if it made some people look a little closer.
That said, let the most popular design win.
I chose first design, because I misunderstood. I look good in red and I wanted to wear red – finally a funny t-shirt that is not mourning-black! And I’m female, thus my voting.
And then I vote and see they all will be black and Tab asks us only abuot the design. :( Will there be other basic colours of t-shirts?
Hi, my preference (by far!) would actually be the one permutation not listed: male red, female blue, neutral yellow…

strongly agreed!
I don’t know… I find it really simplistic :/
Playing with the idea of a 3D nebulosa would be more interesting:

The only reason why I liked A best was because of the bright colors. I love bright colors.
