This is so wild to read in the day and age of a variety of gender affirming options. What a nightmare we lived in
I mean… It still happens.
Different countries. Different small towns within the same country.
You live in an echo chamber if you think there aren’t a large swath of people who still think gay is a sin or that gay is embarrassing.
Even as I sit with my wife (we’re both mostly-cis female) of 3 years, even though we met at a church and were able to date openly there. My grandma from a different church thought we were going to have an orgy because we were gay. My wife had to deal with death threats at school and getting jumped routinely for being a dyke. While at my school at the same time, it felt like there were more openly gay folks than straight folks.
The world is varied. Horrible and wonderful. But even if you’ve found a pocket of wonderful, never forget that other people might still be going through the horrible.
