It was covered in depth in the comments two pages back- it’s UK university grading. It’s not terrible, but not what one would be aiming for. If you want to understand it better, read the comments by people with a better understanding than I back on the page where Anwar mentions his grade in the narrative- I’m sure it’s two pages back.
Are we… sure she wants to call Anwar Anakin? I mean, that sets up a bit of a bad precedent given what happened to Anakin I.
Mind you, she could be talking about Vaders Grandson, Anakin. Thats Luke’s kid. As I understand it Anakin II is basically a more bad-ass Qui-Gon Jinn. Yes, I DID say more bad-ass (at least once he’s over his moral quandry bit; could’ve used Qui-Gon or Obi-Wan for that one. Luke was Zero help). Read the books :P
Hey guys, I was wondering if any readers would give me a hand. I know this isn’t really the right place to ask, but I think highly of the readers Tab tends to attract, and… well, I don’t really know where else. (Don’t worry, this isn’t super serious!)
My (male-bodied) fiance has often said or done things that… made me wonder how “male” he identified. I brought it up today, and had to explain that some people can be “in the middle” and that gender is a spectrum. I said that he came across as more “in the middle” than male (or female), and he just shrugged and said that that sounds about right, and that was it.
Basically, all I really know about uh, none-binary genders is that they exist and to be respectful and use whatever pronouns they prefer- I’ve never needed to know more, and never really thought it would matter, as if I met anyone who was gender neutral, or gender queer, etc it wouldn’t really be my business beyond making sure I treated them as they wanted to be treated; but this is my fiance, and as he’s even more lost than I am, I want to help. Basically, I was wondering if anyone knew of a relatively simple site that explains none-binary genders to people who have a basic understanding that genders aren’t really binary and that there’s different none-binary genders out there but little more.
WHEW. That was longer than anticipated. Thanks in advance if anyone even reads this, let alone responds!
I stumbled across a (draft of a) book that aims to explain many things about gender, there’s also some nonbinary stuff in there and I think it’s really well written and understandable: http://issuu.com/thegenderbook/docs/the_gender_book
Might be a good start?
Can we talk about that third panel? Cause I mean, damn, Tab, that is some beautiful use of negative space. The way the panel is laid out just perfectly conveys how Anwar is feeling at the moment.
I didn’t notice that, at least consciously, but you’re totally right. One thing I love about it, is that the room clearly doesn’t look like that, but the great thing about a comic, or animation I suppose, is that you can show emotion and mood by drastically altering the scenery in cool ways. Scott Pilgrim was good for this, and the movie did a great job of using the technique in film.
I just want to say that I find the loping, sloping quality of Anwar’s shoulders particularly endearing—in panel three here, and at many other moments throughout the comic.
It’s interesting that, even though he only achieved a 2.2 in his finals, he feels like he would’ve done much better studying medicine which is infamously challenging.
Makes me wonder what he *did* study if he thinks medicine would be easier. Or if he just feels like medicine is something he would’ve had more of an affinity with…
I like that Mama!Anwar is just as much of a nerd.
Also, what’s a 2.2? I’m assuming it’s bad but I haven’t encountered that sort of grading.

I think it’s more or less equivalent to my grade of ‘non sine laude’. i.e. second lowest pass. But I love the latin “not woithout praise”.

Was Anakin the second not Han and Leia’s son? Luke and Mara’s kid was called Ben, as I recall.
You are absolutely right.
I shall now go and reassess my life
Oh my god, it’s MY mom. She used to call me her “padawan learner” all the time.
OMG. One page and Mama Anwar is already rivalling JD as “best character EVAR”
Waheed was the bets act 2 mercenary, always picked him.
best~
All of us desis go into medicine tho how many jobs can there be???
Infinite amounts.
Tab always writes the best parents!
Totally shipping Anwar’s mum and Steve’s dad.
Anwar’s mum is adorable!
I’d say “that’s me in 5 years”, but I won’t even be accepted to the studies.
And seriously, where do you get these parents from, Tab? I’d like a refund.
