Shades Of A 026
Great livestream today, as I’ve got a lot of crowd scenes I’m asking people to describe themselves to give me ideas about background characters to draw.
It’s common knowledge that English people talk about the weather a lot. This is because it takes humans about 2 weeks to adapt to a new climate- but in the UK the weather changes so much we never get a chance to adapt. So we talk about it constantly to share our misery.
Gotta love these conversations… had a few of them myself, they aren’t much fun.
Also, third panel behind Chris’ speech bubble, if that one is me it actually doesn’t look too far off from me irl (minus a whole bunch of facial detail of course). haha Good job interpreting my description from the livestream chat Tab. <3
Mines pretty good too, though I seldom wear blue. :D
Hehe, I wonder what our faceless 2d selves are discussing. The mysteries of the universe perhaps? Did that barista actually wink at you or did he simply have something in his eye? Or maybe we’re simply sitting silently wondering when we’ll disappear back into nothingness and obscurity because our parts as background characters in Anwar’s and Chris’ meeting has come to an end.
Oh the things we will never know… but personally, I’m going to say he WAS winking at you. ;]
I think we’re talking about comics ;)
Well, that should be MOST of the awkward stuff out of the way, right? :P
“So how about that weather?!”
“THE WEATHER HURT MY FEELINGS”
“So how about my dead dad?!”
“THE WEATHER’S LOVELY”
“DAD”
“SO SUNNY”
“DEAD”
“WEA–”
“PARENT”
“WILL YOU–”
“DEAD”
LOL. Todays is not their day *smirks* I’m really enjoying Shades of A a lot =)
The awkward is making me squirm happily. Thank you for such fun characters, Tab! Last panel is my favorite, I love both their faces.
I dub thee page… “shades of AWKWARD” … alright :D lmao
Face palm!!
Lol, I like how they’re both just like “I GIVE UP!”
Haha, in Bretagne (France) it’s the same, talking about weather all the time, don’t feel too lonely there XD
This is very true about the weather. I was studying abroad in Wales and took a Welsh language class for fun, and they mostly just taught us how to talk about the weather because that was the important thing.
You wanna talk about random weather. You should see what Texas is like.
Iowa is pretty bad as well.
This. Is. Perfect. My school put on The Little Mermaid. One of the lines is, “So…ah, how about this weather?” My friends and I use that line whenever things get really awkward. This is great art, Tab, and an interesting story so far! Keep it up!
Today’s forecast is a huge chance of rain, and a probably chance of awkward. Be sure to stay in doors, folks, this weather’s about to get HEAVY pretty soon.
darn, I meant to say date, not rain……. I blame the coincidental weather outside
Looks like a good song reference: Comsat Angels ‘Scissors and Stone’
Watch out for the landmines….
How recently did the father in question die? Because unless it was like this year, I don’t see how that’s a land mine. My dad died ten years ago and I’m still trying to find the right way to formulate it so that people quit falling all over themselves in stammered condolences when they ask if my parents are living in town. Really, it’s been a decade, it has about the same affective charge as saying I was born in [town] in [year].
Theoretically it could still be weird, like if he died in some sort of really messed up accident or he died because of complications due to some sort of addiction, etc. There are people I know who are a couple decades out from the death in question, and it still messes with them sometimes.
Ah, the weather… We like to complain about it, but it’s not really unpredictable. It’s going to rain. The weather doesn’t care which season or month it is; it’s going to rain. (If it’s cold enough, aforementioned rain becomes snow. And if it’s in a hurry, it comes down as hail.)
Hey! have you seen this article? http://www.thestar.com/news/insight/2013/04/27/the_realm_between_he_and_she.html
The comments are pretty awful in general but what’ new, right?
Good article.
I think irl at this point I’d just have to laugh for all this awkwardness and make a joke about how impossible it is to have a proper conversation with so many themes to avoid. It feels (imo) so absurd that it isn’t even awkward anymore
I was skeptical. It was taking me a while to warm up to these characters, but this scene just tipped the balance for me. This interaction here feels so very warm and organic and… real.
Same thing in Bing. “You’re having a conversation about the weather? For real?” “Yeah. Stay the rest of the weekend, you’ll see why.”
Most awkward conversation ever, oh my gods. Anwar and Chris are such precious bbys. >w<
Landmines GALORE!!
oh, the landmines… let’s step back to safety!
though i’m terrible at talking weather, so i prefer landmines.
have had lots of deep and interesting conversations about life because of them.
Oh God, that was disastrous but at the same time adorable :)
i always laugh so hard at this page in particular.
SO HOW ABOUT THAT WEATHER
