Shades After Page 83
This page is brought to you by my new shiny edition of manga studio, which I’ve now got thanks to you guys! I had some teething problems getting files saved but there’s so many useful tools (3D posing models, perspective lines, bubble tools, better colour swatches, gradients) that I’m looking forward to figuring out what I can do. Hope you enjoy!
THIS IS A DAY EARLY FOR ME YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess it’s just because I’m not at all a physically affectionate person, but that last panel looks so uncomfortable to me. Like, yes it’s also adorable and I’m happy for War and Chris! But also they barely have any room to move at all, Chris could crush War’s balls with the smallest shift of his body in this position and I just imagine that I would be so awkward and anxious if I was in this situation.
I have to think it’s on purpose, emphasizing that it takes a bit of doing to fit two grown, not-small people in a regular bathtub together. I feel like that makes it a lot more intimate and relatable though, like plenty of people have their own experiences of trying to to a romantic thing from a movie but it being kind of awkward and goofy to do in real life so you just kinda laugh about it and have a good time with your partner vs. the sexy idealized scene.
Haha- in my head when I was scripting it I imagined the panel as all bubbles and soft focus, then I came to actually drawing it and was like ‘how do 2 taller than average adults fit in a bath?’
The answer is, with much comedy.
I want an Anwar and Chris squeezing into a bath side story!
I second that.
I love them both hanging out over the edges, it’s super sweet. On a side note I once got three people in a bathtub, but it was one of those old clawfoot tubs (and we still wound up a little stuck and had to shove one person out to help the other two get free)
I really want a tub like that (for similar reasons, actually!) In the current house, we have only a shower, and it’s slightly tight for even just two people, and barely enough room for more than just normal showering.
Oh god, I can personally attest that it is absolutely uncomfortable. But it feels amazing when you’re wanting it. My husband (6ft and solid) and I (5’10 and broad) bathed together when I was heavily pregnant. It was exactly like this. It’s not easy, it takes a lot of maneuvering. It’s hilarious as fuck while you try to do it. Then you get that one position that is comfy and everything else just stops. You just lie there in your comfy-ness and use a face washer to drizzle water over parts that get cold when exposed.
My immediate thought was that looks uncomfy in the “you might squish something way” but also comfy and as someone who has also fit three uncomfortably in a tub at a sleepover with limited hot water I can only relate to the second not so comfy one
THIS IS KAWAII AS SHIT I LOVE IT <3
Oh wow! I’m sure you can tell, but there’s a noticeable difference between this and previous pages. Your work has always been great but I really can’t wait to see how the new tools continue to improve the end results.
I think it’s the subtle shading- I love cell shading but gradients just add a polish!
I can see the difference with the new software. Looks good. :)
Huge difference, and definitely super cute ^w^
I was gonna say that Chris’s beard in the second panel looked so flippin’ detailed and amazing to me. I understand why now! :D
First time posting a comment. I’ve been around since the end of Steve and Mark’s story. Just wanted to say that the last line made me laugh way too hard because of that actor from Community. Also, your art has improved so much since I started reading your works. Keep it up!
Cheers for staying around so long! XD
Love this! Those two wedged into the tub is both hysterical and unbearably sweet! Priceless!! :)
Love how strong and down-to-earth this relationship is. There is definitely more man than water in that bathtube, but these two are happy as a larke
Im glad the software is working well! Theres a big diff already (also been around sense khaos so its amazing to see your art improve all the time).
Man am I jealous, I never could squeeze myself and a partner in a tub!
I’ve also been a fan since Mark’s Story so it has been a pleasure watching you grow as an artist. Congrats on new and improved software it already has a noticeable effect (I don’t know how you lived without gradients for this long??) I have full-bore Photoshop, does Manga Studio have the Color-picker (looks like a eye-dropper) that will make another huge difference. And does it have a filter gallery? If you wanted to make the tub scene be all glowy and diffuse it could still be done (and if you don’t have filters you can now fake it with gradients at least)
Every version past 4EX has a colour picker. There’s lots of toning effects (glowy manga bubbles, toning dots, surprise lines) but those are treated like pattern layers, not filters. It’s very different from PS, but some of those differences do work better for comic creation, so you have to relearn everything you know about art programs. XD
That sounds like a great way to spend an evening!
Has anyone noticed that at the bottom of the page it says Gaaayyy.
Yea it’s kinda in a joking manner. Since Anwar is asexual (Romantic orientation unknown ATM) and chris is …. chris (his sexuality has never been explicitly stated i don’t think. He just likes anwar romantically at least and has some sort of attraction to women) Anyway since anwar isn’t gay and he’s queer friendly he’s poking fun at anti-LGBT using it as a slur by using it in a playful way.
Adoooooooooooorable! ^_^
