Actually, I work with kids around ages 3-8 and, weirdly, most of the rude parents have weirdly polite kids if the kids are 5 or older. The kids end up looking like they want the floor to swallow them whole, they’re so embarrassed by their parents’ rude behavior. It’s very strange.
Poor Chris looks like he’s about to drop. What did the little rug rat do to him all day?!?
Also I really hope Anwar is good with kids. There is nothing more angry than a kid who is bitter about her parents splitting up and ruining her life and then meeting her dad’s BOYFRIEND. God knows what bile her mother spews about her ex being a transvestite to her kids as it is.
I was thinking that, too, but I’m glad RoL brought it up first.
I remember dating a woman who’s mother taught her grandson to hate me because I’m an atheist. Made me feel so uncomfortable I had to establish boundaries so that I didn’t have to be near her family.
Damn, I feel bad for your girlfriend that her mom had to sabotage her daughter’s relationship like that, not to mention putting you in such an awkward position. What a bitch.
Really? An atheist? Wow. Super-religious town? In the area I live in, people being mad about someone being an atheist would be laughable. That sucks though.
So me and my former went to a park to practice hooping and acro. There was a group of missionaries there, praying and doing their thing. It actually seemed rather sweet, until one of them came over and asked what we were up to.
Now, I don’t mind it when people ask me about my circus art, so I explained about our training, but it quickly became apparent this fella was only using it as an icebreaker to try to proselytize to us.
Oh! You’re a girlfriend is a Christian, and you’re an atheist? How does that work?!
It works because we love each other – I responded with, wanting to add a “Piss off” at the end of it.
I then asked if he was going to proselytize to me about the wickedness of my ways.
“Well, no…” he said, and began to proselytize to me and argued the existence of God using overly simplified logic. As he became more and more frustrated, his friend came over to help. I proved to both of them that I knew the Bible better than they did, and asked them to leave me alone.
“No! We don’t have to. It’s a public park, and as a performer you should be used to people coming up to you.”
We call those “hecklers” in the industry, but moreover these guys were jerks.
My former’s mother heard about this, and insisted rather forcefully that, “They were only trying to help you.”
This is after I had also demonstrated that she doesn’t know what she’s talking about, and that I’ve clearly read more of the Bible that she has.
After that nearly every little thing I did was criticized, including, but not limited to, saying the word “crud.” Her mother got her son to start scowling at me. It was most unpleasant.
I’ve resolved not to date single mothers since then.
:(
I’m sorry that happened to you.
I’m even more sorry that it made you decide not to date single mothers. Not because of the decision you made, but because society is enough of a jerk to women already, especially if they are single women with kids.
Oh yeah, and those missionaries? Well, not sure if it’s the same exact group, but I’ve heard reports that zealots have taken to invading local businesses and attempting to preach to folks just trying to do their jobs.
At our local county fair, when we were kids my sister and I always brought our horses to be a part of the 4H exhibit. There are also booths for everything from political parties to scouts to church groups, and we always made the rounds to them because they gave out free stuff. One such booth was of a non-denominational church group and my sister and I got into it with one of the guys who was all hell fire and brimstone about EVERYTHING. We tried to tell him we were already Catholic and therefore good on the whole Jesus thing but he insisted we got it wrong and we couldn’t very so accepting of different people because God didn’t like sinners, so my sister, an innocent 12 year old at the time, recites what our priests and CCD and parents always told us and tells him “but Jesus tells us to love everyone” to which he says “you’re going to hell for saying that” and you could see the gears jam in her head as she tried to process this. I just laughed in his face, quoted Billy Joel, took a balloon animal, and stalked off. Pretty sure that was the start of my “hey, why are Christians such dicks?” Questioning phase.
I believe that was the original intent of the law. Heard about a cake shop owner who refused to write something anti-gay on a cake. She made the cake, and offered the customer the icing to write whatever they wanted, but the customer turned around and sued them for discrimination.
I believe that’s the reason why the law was passed: to protect business owners from jerks like that.
Not in Indiana. The whole point of that law is so *Christian* cake shop owners can refuse service to glbt customers, or restaurant owners could toss out gay couples. It’s a terrible law that opens the door wide for discrimination and now it’s going to be revised because a whole bunch of companies pulled their business out of Indiana until language is put in the law that protects glbt people from discrimination
That crash had to happen for a long time!
By the way: We know that Anwar is loved by kids, at least of his own family.
But quite often in divorces one parent (only to often the mother) starts to poison the relationship of the children with the other parent. Especially if a new, unorthodox partner comes into play!
My own experience with parents that trash talk the other parent to kids has been split, with a slight weighting towards biological fathers and their significant others trash talking biological mothers.
On the other hand if there is something genuinely dangerous about one parent – it’s not trash talking to have an age & maturity appropriate conversation so boundaries can be set. Example – an alcoholic parent who drives while drunk and is frequently drunk. It’s an obligation at that point for the other parent to warn the child never to get into the car with the drinking parent.
there’s more than one!! this is hilariously awkward
Chris is so frazzled! Poor planning? Or a chance to have his kids? Cuz I remember him saying he lost joint custody?
Oh this is gunna be good.
Kids are such gems, right? XD
Gems or Germs? I’ve got two myself and most days I can’t decide….
ooooh dat brutal childhood innocence.
Well, I anticipate that this will go as smoothly as Anwar’s graduation. I suspect Chris’ children are about as loving and accepting as Anwar’s mother.
And I work with children ages 8 and up, and not surprisingly, they’re very, very rude.
Anecdotal experiences can be tricky to measure.
I also noticed this is Shades page 69. It’s somehow managed to be as unsexy as possible.
That’s an ace comic for you ;)
Ah HAHAHAHAHA! Zing!

That’s true, I didn’t think of that; what if she already knows that her dad has a boyfriend?
I was thinking that, too, but I’m glad RoL brought it up first.

Story time!

Finally! A good use for the Indiana religious exemption act!
“No proslyetising Christians; I’m an athiest.”

I know it’s prooobably just up in a ponytail, but my first response to seeing Chris on this page was “oh no, it looks like he cut his hair!”
Your commit made me realize he and the kid have the same Hair cut
D’aw she looks like him.
