Shades After 032
Anckle is a word I made up for the gender neutral version of advice giver than can also be a sibling of your parent. Also I don’t know about you, but I will never be too old to not laugh at a wank gesture.
In last minute news I’ll be at Birmingham MCM Comic Con this weekend- never done this one before so it will be lovely to meet a whole new set of people!
I like anckle. It goes well with nibling (niece/nephew).
“proper gay” … that just had me snickering with the idea that he must have been improperly gay before.
As much as I feel for him, ‘War amuses me so.
I just had a “neice” (i use nibling – babies dont have genders) born 6 days ago. I have decided the child will be calling me Auncle (anckle?) as well, but i have also been considering sibble, dibling (their dads sibling), and maybe da-sib, or another variant…Ive always felt something was off about using a mash of male and female language to make “neutral” language for myself.
anyway, love the page!!! love the story!!! it feels really cool to see people using words i feel like im just making up on my own to describe their experiences.
Why don’t you ask them to call you by your name?
Aww his ears are all red!

This character from Casper’s Scare School is the Anckle of the two-headed headmaster of the scare school and you totally reminded me of my childhood. Or my adulthood of watching children’s cartoons.
Heh, I love anckle I have a friend who is intersexed and their siblings call them their brister (assigned male at birth but so obviously feminine growing up it wasn’t funny). I wish english was better about pronouns but wth, we’ll make our own.
Glad Anwar is clearing things up with JD and that JD is just being protective of their friend, making sure he isn’t being pressured. I suspect that JD feels bad like they think they pressured ‘war when they were dating (even though it was something he did on his own recognizance, JD feels guilty about it all I suspect). Also the “I have no words” hand-flapping is hysterical.
i’m genderqueer and my sister is pregnant. i have been struggling with what to be called (such as looking at other languages or making up something like mom-sib). can i steal Anckle?
Oh gods! Another instance of words I sued when i was just thinking I was making things up! Ankle. Me and my sister decided I was that for my niece and nephew. XD This is wonderful and affirming!
And JD is awesome for being there and Anwar is cute.
I like the mibling/dibling thing, not thought of those.
But how would anckle be pronounced? Little dyslexic and in my head I’m saying ankle (like the body part) – can someone write it phonetically for me? Thanks :)
I’m pronouncing it ‘ankle’ too. Although I suppose the a could have the same sound as in aunt* – so, aaaahn-cle.
*Aunt when said by Brits like me, anyway. Now I’m remembering the Roald Dahl poem where someone’s American aunt gets eaten by an anteater because of the confusion over pronunciation.
There are Americans who pronounce aunt aaaahn-t (including yours truly). It depends on yours truly. I like the idea of ankle being pronounced with the “aunt” sound.
auncle sounds too much like uncle for me – i tend to use ommer rather than any mash of male and female words. im not a mash up of two genders so i dont see why my words should be. That said, to each their own, i guess.
Your aunt will be fine in the Roald Dahl universe, then :)
Such babes
I’m genderfluid and have a very feminine name and on the days I present masculine my roommates have taken to calling me ‘Kevin’. We’ve been discussing lately about whither their kids will call me Uncle Kevin or Aunt ____. I really like Anckle. I will probably go with that.
Heee, I love these gender neutral pronouns :D
Labels are only good for those who use them, but if I had to label Anwar…
Panromantic asexual (^-^)-b
