Y’know “He’s a friend” would even be accurate. There’s no need to specify what sort of friend after all.
Mind you this being a work of fiction and given Anwar’s, understandable, habit of tripping over his own tongue I doubt it could be that simple a resolution.
But do family need to know everything about a person? Even the things that would freak them out? I suspect his mother would be more understanding than he would initially suspect. But there’s no need to enlighten the entire clan.
Eeep, way to up the stakes, I don’t think Anwar is quite ready to explain this to his family just yet. Hopefully he will think of something to say that won’t completely hurt Chris. Now I do understand that Chris kinda surprised him by showing up, but really, if he got two tickets for JD who else did he think they would bring other than Chris?
I was wondering if it was a site glitch that both pages uploaded on monday instead of one on thurs and then one on mon, but I guess if that’s how you want to do it… I just kinda like having it spaced out a bit (plus I hate waiting, getting a thursday update resets the “waiting for update” switch in my head so it doesn’t feel as long between pages).
Tab, if I might make a suggestion, if you’re going to upload both pages on the same day, then maybe it would be better to have the main page link to the first of the two, rather than to the second one. That way some people are less likely accidentally read the second page first, and end up getting confused because there seems to have been a time skip from the last page they read, to the most recently added one, which could potentially end up spoiling scenes for them.
Or alternatively, go back to the two updates, two days a week schedule. I know the internet said they wanted both on Monday, but really, what the internet wants, and what’s best for it, are often two very different things. :P
What about queueing one of the pages on Monday to be posted some other time in the week? This way you can get all the comic work in one day and we don’t get confused by the updates.
This is how wordpress works: new post –> SET TO –> Scheduled –> [choose your date]. You can have your second weekly comic appear whenever you like, and if you remember posting on Mondays, you can also remember scheduling the second one for later. I don’t see the problem.
Wait, when did the internet tell Tab to only do it on mondays? Did I miss the voting? I’d like it spaced out to two updates a week, it doesn’t feel like quite as much waiting that way.
He did a poll thingy near the beginning of August. I found the timing kind of inconvenient though, since a lot of people who would have liked to have had input, such as yourself (and moi ;_;), didn’t even know about it because the site wasn’t updating, so we had less reason to check it regularly.
I don’t hold anything against Tab for doing the poll before the comic restarted per say, it makes sense, but I feel like it would make even more sense to do another one a few weeks in so that more of the usual readership is involved this time. (Also, I mean a poll about just when the updates are added, since he’s already stated that he likes doing all the work, and thus two livestreams, on Monday.)
Ah, but having both livestreams on monday makes it easier to remember and I like having the instant gratification. I mean I could post it up on wednesday but it seems like endless faff that I’m liable to forget.
Perhaps, but then one must ask one’s self (and by one I mean you), which is worse, forgetting to update a page on time once in a while, or risking potential spoilers in the future (albeit minor ones most of the time) every single week? I get where you’re coming from about not wanting to forget, but since WordPress won’t let you link the first page rather than the second to the home page, a LOT of people are going to end up seeing the second page first a LOT of the time, and that’s no good either (imo, probably worse than a potentially late update every now and then frankly). :/
While I like the idea of instant gratification there is also the whole comments aspect, I noticed the first page of the update has almost no comments, they are all the second page of the update. I like having the discussions of each page and also I feel like the first page of the two-page update gets less love because everyone rushes through it to the next page (that and the other problem is I keep seeing the 2nd page first and having to go back because there was a story leap) Someone commented above asking if there was some way to link to the first page of the update instead of just ‘most recent’ and I agree that would be nice (although I am a website luddite so I don’t know what would be easier on you)
I didnt realize we voted on *two* pages a day. I like one page per day. Some comics only update once a week and thatd be fine with me and minus confusion plus more discussions.
Agreed! Would love to get two updates a week instead of two in one–but if it’s not convenient for Tab, then oh well, I guess I don’t mind too much…Still just too freaking happy that Shades is updating again, really! =D
First off – I’m thrilled A is updating again! It’s the only good part of my August this year…
To chime in on the timing question: My only concern is spoilers disrupting the pacing. Since I can’t get to the previous page until the second one in the pair loads, I’m inevitably going to see some of the most recent page before I click the “previous” button. For this update it was a relatively minor spoiler from the shout to seeing A’s mother, but in the future it could be more of a problem.
Maybe a way to fix this would be by having the two pages on the same image, with a white gap in between to show the difference? That way two pages could be posted in one day, and people could avoid getting confused. (And it can still easily be converted into book format, seeing as there are still two distinct pages)
I started this comic today and literally wailed “Noooooooooo!” when I realized I’ve caught up to the most recent page! I love this comic so much, thank you for having breathed life into this idea c:
Awwww
Quick Anwar, whip out the “He’s just a friend” card!
Not that I’m necessarily rooting for him to hide his thing with Chris, it just seems like if he is going to tell his family, now is not the time. :P
Y’know “He’s a friend” would even be accurate. There’s no need to specify what sort of friend after all.
Mind you this being a work of fiction and given Anwar’s, understandable, habit of tripping over his own tongue I doubt it could be that simple a resolution.
Ah, but it’s not a resolution as he’s still keeping things from his family.
Well, true.
But do family need to know everything about a person? Even the things that would freak them out? I suspect his mother would be more understanding than he would initially suspect. But there’s no need to enlighten the entire clan.
True, he doesn’t have to include his family in his personal life, and he may live in the closet.
Oh boy I wonder what theyll say. I mean they could rock the professor aspect… right?
Eeep, way to up the stakes, I don’t think Anwar is quite ready to explain this to his family just yet. Hopefully he will think of something to say that won’t completely hurt Chris. I second every word in that comment
I third every word.
Also “I didn’t mean to leave you on a cliffhanger…” my arse.
Sorry no can do, that’s just not how WordPress works!
I like doing it on monday- gets my comic work out of the way for the rest of the week. :P
Well that’s… well, it is what it is I guess. @_@
What about queueing one of the pages on Monday to be posted some other time in the week? This way you can get all the comic work in one day and we don’t get confused by the updates.
^ This. This could work. Both livestreams/work on Monday, but you post the second one some time later on (or queue it to do so). \o/

It’s the media posts that I’d forget- all the posting to facebook and tumblr to let people know I’ve done a page!
Ah… I wasn’t even aware that you do that. But if you think that’s important then I guess that’s an argument.
Wait, when did the internet tell Tab to only do it on mondays? Did I miss the voting? I’d like it spaced out to two updates a week, it doesn’t feel like quite as much waiting that way.
