Just a thing, Tab: “ass” hit an odd note with me – I know it’s more common these days, but I get the feeling “arse” would be more in line with the setting.
But you weren’t lying when you said intense, were you?
It might suit John’s accent more but something about arse always makes me recoil- maybe I should just change it to ‘hole’ instead.
“Hole” seems impersonal to me, as if John would be saying all James is is a sex toy, when that’s not how he’s behaving. Maybe a less “dirty” word like “bottom” or “rump” would work better here? Given the intensity of the entire page, I think “cleaning” up the language would actually give more of an impact.
I remember the first time I saw someone use ‘arse’ in writing I just kinda laughed because it sounded so weird… Then I got *really* heavily into UK based fanfictions (a la Harry Potter, Sherlock, etc.) and now it’s just kinda normal.
As a british person can I just say- reading ARSE in a sex scene is the funniest shit and I will never unsee it
