Madame, Mistress and Maid ~ Mille-feuille ~ Page 1
Style change! I’m going for more of a movie theme for this one, which means black borders and the return of gradient shading.
In con news I’m off to Norway today for Banzaicon! I’ll be doing a panel on Bizarre Anime Censorship, Cosplay Skits Around the World and other exciting things that I’ve probably forgotten about…
Oh, anime cenzorship! There are three most popular styles, as I remember.
1. “Level C” anime censorship – black blobs.
2. Invisible penises.
3. House plant censorship.
Don’t forget the pixel-grid censorship. A friend once joked that he’d watched so much censored anime that he now gets aroused by color swatches.
Also don’t forget the glowing penises. Those things that are so bright, you can go blind.
My favorite is the black line across pretty random parts of genitalia. It’s like…are you actually trying to fool anyone, or what’s the deal with that…?
That would be the perpetually odd Japanese censorship laws. They can show genitalia but only certain parts, so they cover only the bits they have to.
What’s hilarious is what they did when the censorship laws were more strict. The tendency toward clothed frottage and suggestive food porn originates from then. And Tompopo, which was made at the time, really famous, and… the interjected food scenes. xD House plant censorship also from that time, though not from Tompopo.
Pixels in anime? I asociate it more with regular Japanese porn, not exactly anime.
Yes, glowing penises are also there, but I put them under Level C, because the idea is similar.
Black line is purely for law/rules purpose and basically says “Here. Happy?”. Something like we can’t show exposed genitalia, but any cover means they are technically not exposed anymore.
Is it bad I already love the gaydies?
When I started reading the comic, my first thought was, “Cool, looks like a black and white film strip.” Then I scrolled down and read the description. Spot on! This period looks like it’s pre-film, or at least pre-Hollywood. But the noir look still fits.
