Yes, which is likely why Charlie is content to keep that name.
But on the other hand, there are trans people who have unisex deadnames, and still change them after they come out, because it can trigger dysphoria anyway, either because they want something that more blatantly affirms their gender, or because when they think of that name in relation to themselves, they can only think of it in terms of their assigned gender, which is… uncomfortable, at best.
(Some might choose a name that is completely unlike their deadname, even when there are masculine & feminine forms of it, for the similar reasons.)
Basically… Humans are complicated, no one reacts the same way, yada yada yada, Charlie’s Mum was asking a perfectly valid question. (Especially as she’s trying to understand & support her daughter as best she can. I imagine for a cis parent who suddenly finds out their kid is trans, it can be pretty confusing sometimes. You’re doing your best to support your kid, but all this stuff is so new to you it can be overwhelming, and hard to figure out the right thing to do. Again, Charlie’s Mum is on the right track here – check in with your kid, and let them lead the way.)
…Sorry. I went off on a tangent. (Also not yelling at you or anything, btw, just explaining for anyone in the future who gets confused about this point.)
