I’m pretty sure Anwar gets me like no other. When your SO says something bad about themselves, and you awkwardly cut in with a not-super-useful declaration…
Typically when any friend of mine starts up with ridiculous self-deprecation, I respond thusly (in this example, my friend is calling herself fat):
“Oh, yeah, Lindsey! You’re totally fat. I kinda hate you for being such a fat ass.”
I do this because I know if object then they’ll just insist on what they were complaining about. Reverse psychology actually works more often than it rightly should.
Um… Possibly a stupid question, but what’s so wrong about being a pervert? I would assume that encompasses anything that deviates from a sexual “norm,” so doesn’t that end up encompassing just about everyone?
Or does he more mean he’s afraid of proving the “dirty *old* pervert” archetype momwar meant? (as in preying on younger men, not just as in him being older)
There are lots of reasons one might not want to be a pervert. The example that comes to mind for me is that its used as a slur/insult by many people (including Anwar’s mum). There are lots of fine (and some actively great!) things to be that are used as slurs/insults: gay, feminist, [insert racial slur here], [insert religious slur here]. “I’m not accepted by my community” is a pretty hard thing to swallow (and, usually its only a nasty few using the slurs anyway, but somehow it taints the whole word), and one can be left with a strong desire to be “normal” or just not that specific slur. :( Which I assume is how we get so many people denying being a feminist, or whatever other awesome thing they are.
Slurs are really powerful. Here is a study on “sluts”: http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2014/05/28/slut_shaming_and_class_a_study_on_how_college_women_decide_who_s_trashy.html
You’d think the word had a meaning, and yet, that meaning has nothing to do with having sex based on that study, and everything about the powerful bullying the weak. In short, its become a slur that applies to virtually anyone that slurs will stick to, regardless of the amount of sex they have. And, it does result in people watching their behavior to avoid getting the slur stuck to them.
Ah, ok. I have a hard time picking up on slurs directed against me, so they usually make very little sense when I try to puzzle them out; generally the words used as slurs against me just make me laugh because I enjoy the positive connotations that can be associated with the words.
And while, yeah, the word MEANS someone whose sexuality is “abnormal” (thanks that makes it impossible to define yay), the connotation is often that of a sexual predator, someone who throws his or her sexuality at unwilling participants or preys on the innocent or naive. For example, if someone grabbed my butt on the bus, I would be quite likely to scream “take your hands off me you fucking pervert” to both get his hands off of me and get the attention of everyone nearby. The connotation there is well understood by everyone, that of a pervert throwing their sexual desires around where it is unwanted/unacceptable.
Beyond the concept of abnormal is the idea that perversion is unacceptable, a corruption of the way something should be. It is possible to be abnormal in a positive or neutral way (such as being taller or shorter than normal). Perverted tends to mean abnormal in a negative way, in a way some quantity of people in society see as wrong.
A nudist is abnormal, but a flasher is a pervert. Both are baring their body, both are not considered completely normal, but the flasher is doing something more that people generally see in a negative light.
Aww poor Poof T_T I’ll cuddles him! But yea no one wants a creeper kitty…it really kills the mood ~_~ Nothing like going at it and just as the ‘O’ moment happens you hear a meow and see two glowing eyes….creeping at the end of the bed….BAM sexitimes dead
Google defines pervert as ‘a person whose sexual behaviour is regarded as abnormal and unacceptable.’
But we’ve already established that socially accepted norms aren’t all there is to sexual behaviour. BDSM can be and often is described as a perversion, but that’s not really fair, is it?
I think Chris loves his kinky side, but is still battling with the outside perceptions of what he wants/needs. Anwar just leaping like that with a ‘helpful’ comment is very, very sweet, but I’m not sure it’s what Chris needs.
Fortunately, I’m quite behind with this comic so I shall pick up my answer in T-minus 15 seconds! ;-)

Um… as a disclaimer, results may vary ^_^;
Lol, I have a friend who does that to me. You’re right; results DO vary. ;)
You mean not everyone does that? D:

That is super awesome! :)
Being able to laugh and just not care strips them of their power. You and your ability to do this rock. :D

Oh, and I love Chris’ face in the last panel. “Really?” he seems to say “are you serious?”
(Because, in general, he seems to own his pervert-ness)
D’aww. Cute Poof! And yay awkward… *giggles*
You say ‘pervert’ like it’s a bad thing.
