Sir, Butler and Boy ~ Pheasant Plucker ~ Page 9
Oh ho ho- looks like James didn’t know about scenes John and Arthur have in the likes of Tailored Fit (https://www.discordcomics.com/comic/sir-and-butler-a-tailored-fit-cover/ ).
John’s seems to be a big fan of taking it from the side- I think as much as people describe as ‘riding on top’ as being in control, it’s more a showing off position than one you can relax and enjoy in. Here’s to lazy doms who enjoy being pampered for a change!
We’ve only just hit the half way point- there’s a lot more twists in this tale to go.
:D

Fixed! The bracket got in there by mistake
I was thinking about my headcanons for these fellows today, so I thought I’d share them. I’ve got both cis and trans headcanons for each character, but I haven’t put much thought into the cis versions because I’ve read tons of stories about cis Victorians. Not so much for trans Victorians. Because this is a fantasy, there doesn’t need to be any explanation as to how each man could be trans, but I came up with some anyway. I’ll put each character into his own comment so that this isn’t a big block o’ text.
Arthur: The easiest, but also the only one that requires a trigger warning. He discarded his deadname and socially transitioned right before he applied to his very first job in a Big House. He has never been outed at a job, having maintained a butlery aloofness even before he reached that lofty position. [TW: sexual coercion] Outside the House, however, he has met straight men who want a “favor” (eurgh) for their silence, and gay men who pressure him to prove he’s a “real bottom”. All those men are assholes, obviously. John has been wonderful for helping Arthur embrace submissiveness without validating the opinions of abusers.
James: His parents are distant. In some parts of his life, he still has to appear as the “daughter” of the House. He’s pretty good at it; only the short hair marks him as an odd duck. Everywhere he has control over his life, however, is dedicated to upholding his personal truth. The few servants are chosen well and paid well. His stories, his clothes, and his routines are all framed to leave no doubt that he is the young master. Arthur has known for years; he pretended not to know, and James pretended not to know that Arthur knew. It helped create a strong but standoffish bond between them. Because James is a bit of a callow youth, it never even crossed his mind that Arthur also had any secrets until the fateful day he caught Sir and Butler together.
John: He’s the toughest for me, because he has the most societal “markers” of manhood. He has a beard and a marriage (not to be confused with one another), children, and a place in his church. The trans John in my head, though assigned female at birth, always appeared rather traditionally masculine. Perhaps if he was born in the 21st century, doctors might tell him he is intersex. John took his masculine features to be God assuring him he was right to transition, that he is truly a man. (And who is to say that is the wrong conclusion?) Two of his defining characteristics are confidence and guilt. Using that confidence, he sought out what resources there are for a working class Victorian trans man at a fairly early age. As for his wife, I have two stories about her.
•One is that she was a widow with young girls. John really did admire her, and the children adore him, but he never meant for it to go as far as marriage. Unfortunately for the both of them, if anybody could get into a situation where they have barely touched one another but marriage is their only honorable course, it is Victorians. I don’t think the working class worried as much about breach of promise suits as the aristocracy, but I do think they worried about propriety and being right with their church and community.
•The other is that she is also trans. She believes that being trans is morally acceptable, a matter between a person and God alone…as long as the trans person otherwise upholds vanilla heteronormativity. Even though this version of John’s wife is kind of a hypocrite, I still feel really bad for her. When she discovered that John is gay and kinky, that didn’t just alienate her from her husband. It alienated her from her beloved co-conspirator, the man who helped her project the perfect life for a woman of her station, including having her own children. I imagine all the work that took, the subterfuge to make sure as few people as possible knew that it was John, not his wife, who actually bore the children. So much mutual support. What a huge loss!
Anyway, those are a few stories I have told myself about these characters. I love these three sexy-sweet fellows. Thanks for creating them and sharing their lives with us, Tab.
