For comics I tend to get the blue sketch out in the morning and finish off with the ink in the evening with admin/other stuff in between. Those of you who draw- when do you tend to get down to the nitty gritty?
When I worked traditionally, I used to sketch out ten pages then ink them, etc etc etc :P
I draw when my bipolar swings my creative urges that way. I’m not very experienced; still working mostly with pencil and graphite.
Okay, now that someone has mentioned colors I’m seeing them more and more…. I need to actually get to coloring soon, because my fingers are itching.
Also, just read through all the Khaos stories, and then the Shades all over again the last couple of days, and I’ve been reading for a LONG time! I was surprised when I reached the “Addicted to you” song once more that I’ve been happily listening to that for 3 years now! Goodness, I can’t believe it! I found myself really reacting to certain things in ways I hadn’t before, and I’m just so immensely pleased with how amazing these stories are, and how immersive. I was thrown by how like Anwar I was during certain scenes (like when JD asked if Chris was forcing him into sex, when he was like, “Why does everyone think that?” I was like, yes, exactly! My wife is 9 years older than I am, and I had a lot of people in the beginning saying things to me, and asking me if she’d done things and she was more worried about my wellbeing than hers most times. My father even told me at one point that he worried that she had only befriended me originally because she was interested in having sex with someone who was young, and I got incredibly angry with him over it. We were good friends before we got together, and that was all it was for over 6 years before I kissed her.)
Anyway, my real point here, is that I’m so grateful these comics are here. I’m so pleased that they exist, that I can read them and enjoy them and that someone bothered to pen these stories about people like me. People who don’t always get a voice in literature, people who’s tales are called “uninteresting” by writers in media, people who often have to beg and plead for any hint of their type of person being shown. People who’s sexuality or gender is laughed at, scorned or ignored completely. You are amazing, and an inspiration, and I really, really appreciate every word and every line, and all the hard work. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
(I might be having an emotional day. Sorry?)
When I draw (and I usually write or paint instead) I put in the ink intermittently as I finish parts, though it depends on the ink and paper. Certain inks smudge if I do that, so I tend to draw with ones that don’t. I’m irregular that way. I’ll be drawing, say, a cat (I draw and paint cats a lot) and go ‘ooh this ear shape turned out really nice, better ink this’ and have an inked ear, parts in pencil, and the rest bare sketching. Heh.
