“I don’t Anwar is so hot with this” is missing a word.

I wonder what happens when Chris clicks his heels together three times… =3
I want a like button on that comment SO BAD!!!
me too!!!
Me three!!!!!
i know that anwar is desperately uncomfortable, but i can’t help but feel he’s being more than mildly rude to ellen here. they did meet before and talk about dr who (iirc) and i think she’s making every effort a leather-strap-clad person can to return things to that context.
ah well. i guess there’s only so much reasonable behavior a leather-strap-clad person can expect out of our young a :)
I’m not sure if there’s a more polite way to deal with a virtually naked person whose kink dynamic you were just in the middle of. I mean, sure, he could have echoed what JD said about him not being comfortable with it, but instead, he just removed himself from the situation. This is, of course, assuming it was the near nakedness and/or the Mastress/slave/sub bit he sat through that made his so uncomfortable and not the fact that it was JD with Ellen. I’m pretty sure it was the nakedness and/or kink though given he responded pretty similarly the first time he came to this club and this is only his second time. I’ve been involved with the kink scene for a dozen years now and still sometimes get overwhelmed by a scene occasionally, so I can see how someone with so little exposure might be more than flustered even just trying to have a vanilla conversation with someone dressed like Ellen is up there.
I don’t think there was much time between Ellen sitting down and Chris returning, so it wasn’t so much a snub as “oh the person I was waiting here is here now all thee of us can go back to what we most want to do right now.” I’m inclined to think that if Chris hadn’t shown up, Anwar would have just flustered through a phrase and then fallen into the groove of conversation nicely.
I cant help but agree with DRV that Anwar may be a tad rude. I mean Ellen was perfectly accomadating for someone in leather straps. I think shes deserves a round of applause.
And no I am not sure JDs speech bubble is missig a word, they may just be that flustered when caught by surpriss.
how is being uncomfortable being rude? :| for someone who is not into kink at all, Anwar’s reaction is more than realistic to a leather-bound sub.
Maybe it’s the voice I read that in my head with, but I didn’t think Anwar was being rude. It felt like someone who’s uncomfortable with a situation and honestly doesn’t know what correct protocol would be, so he scrambles for a catch-all term to describe the goings-on. Not ideal by any measure, but at least it’s not completely asshole-ish.
He should be asking the people he knows from the Lifestyle what correct terminology is, but a lot of people who live on the fringes of this stuff don’t want to seem un-knowledgeable, so they wing it.
I thought it was rude. They’re making an effort to make him feel at ease and he blows them off.
Yeah. I get that. I think I should have probably said he wasn’t *trying* to be rude.
If this were happening in most other environments, I’d agree that Anwar is being a tad rude. But this is at a fetish club. Partially clad people and kinky activities are the social norm in that setting, and it is not unreasonable for one’s first assumption to be that someone who has come to a fetish club is okay with that stuff.
Also, given that is it a club environment, it is probably loud and crowded. A lot of people are there for specific activities, or to see specific people. A lot of people are there to do the ‘social butterfly’ thing, and talk to LOTS of people. It is MUCH more socially acceptable — polite, even — in a club setting to have to leave a conversation quickly because ‘Oh hey, my date’s out of the loo,’ or ‘They’re playing my favourite song and I need to dance,’ or ‘My best friend is getting chained to the wall and beaten, and I want to go watch.’ Or whatever.
Just a thought – if “Mastress” is a good GQ equivalent for Master/Mistress, what would be an equivalent for Dom/me? All I can think of is “Dome”, and that sounds like I’m making fun of JD’s shape (which I’m absolutely not, JD is awesome-shaped!)
What about Domm? (Also aren’t they all pronounced the same way?)
Domm is good! Yeah, verbally they’re indistinguishable, but written down I can see there could be potential problems.
why? “dom” is not a gender inclusive term like “master/mistress.” a man can be a dom and so can a woman, changing the word is arbitrary.
I thought “Dom” implied a man and “Domme” implied a woman?
I’ve always been under the impression that “domme” explicitly meant female, while “dom” could be either, since it’s just a shortening of “dominant”.
LOL Is Ellen talking about Doctor Who?? Or is it just the geek in me? :p
Given she and An spoke on Dr Who before, it seems reasonable to suppose she is now as well.
LOL That’s true, I forgot about that :)
I could be mistaken, but I’m pretty sure the only discussion including Ellen ‘War had was arguing with her SO about Superman. ‘War and Chris talked Doctor Who while JD went off to ask about whips and other kinky fun stuff.
‘War and Chris -and a bunch of other people who were interested- talked about Doctor Who, it seems reasonable to assume Ellen was among them.
Well spotted!
Oh I SO want to go see the Hobbit. I’m trying to get a group together on the 21st, but it’s like trying to herd cats!
Stupid unherdable cats.
MEOW. I herd u liek me changing my mind and wanting to go to a different showing.
Oh don’t. ‘I can’t sit next to them; I dated them, that would be freaky’
‘I can’t go 3D so we have to go to the 1300 showing’
‘I can only do after 1600’
(These aren’t actual quotes; more general examples. I also wish my friends WOULD talk in 24-hour. It would save confustion)
Despite that progress is being made! I’m up to 3! Turns out you CAN herd cats if you concentrate REally HARD.
Yeah, Anwar’s being hells of rude, though I think he’s talking more to JD than Ellen. Still rude, but not AS rude. Ellen deserves some gold-starring, tho.
TBH, I was left with the impression that everything happens really quickly, and not necessarily that Anwar is being purposefully rude. It’s more like he feels awkward and way out of his depth.
you need to understand that he’s COMPLETELY uncomfortable with the scene still. he wasn’t trying to be rude and decided to remove himself from the situation to prevent a panic attack probably lol.
I dont think Anwar was being rude. He was incredibly uncomfortable and LOOK THERES CHRIS come to save the day. I think only one truly comfortable in the group was Ellen, which major props to her given her state of dress and everything. Even JD is having a mild panic attack and I think it’s cuz ‘War and JD are best buddies, even with the awkward history, and JD’s kinky side isnt something they are used to having Anwar aware of OR involved in. So, having Chris return to the picture is good for all involved; awkward panicky situation dissolved!
While if I were in Ellen’s shoes I probably wouldn’t think Anwar was rude and would empathize, if I were a bystander I’d think he was rude. It’s fine if you’re uncomfortable but put on your tolerance pants or don’t go again just to escape your work acquaintances. Even if he wanted to make a quick escape I think the right way to do it is go “Oh hey, there’s Chris” followed by a small apology for exiting so suddenly and maybe for interrupting. Not a slightly snide comment about have fun with whatever it is you’re doing. It’s a bit rude to me, but I’m really curious how Chris is going to handle him if he’s still so openly uncomfortable but asked to tag along. They’ve set these things as separate from his relationship from him and it’s very possible this is where Chris meets his dommes after all~
Doctor Who, the best solution to any awkward social situation. Love it!
Well, nice to see some french here :p
After reading your comments I’m feeling for both Ellen and Anwar. I understand being the not-into-kink-awkward type but at the same time I suppose I would think of this kind of club as a safe place to let loose and express yourself in the ways you would generally be judged doing. So for someone to come to a place, know what is possible there and yet judge, though that word may be a bit harsh, others for it seems a bit thoughtless.
On the other hand, social protocol would suggest that when told that someone is uncomfortable with the situation that speaking to a person, however kindly, with your private bits showing isn’t what would generally make an awkward/uncomfortable person comfortable. But we would have to assume that she, Ellen, is aware of these norms, which she is probably less aware of in an environment that has a different set of rules/norms, and also assume that she is aware to the degree of uncomfortableness that Anwar is feeling, which really, JD and Chris are the only ones aware of the degree of his feelings.
If this were real life this could be a learning experience for Anwar of what his limits are in certain social settings and making his friends aware of that for future reference (after all, JD did originally convince Anwar to attend such a club despite knowing his feelings). Also, this all could have been avoided if Anwar had just said no to his work buddies in the first place. They don’t need to know exactly what he’s doing, Anwar could have made any excuse instead of following through with going to where Chris knew would be uncomfortable for him.
Also, Tab, I just wanted to say I love the way you did Chris’ shoes! The shading and shine has a great realism to it, in a painterly way. You have a really nice artistic sense! Have you done painting before?
Thanks :D I did art up until age 18 though most of it was abstract. I’m a very messy and fast painter though I haven’t painted much in years. If I draw portraits they always end up looking a bit too cartoon-like for my tastes- that’s the issue with developing a comic style, it’s very hard to break out of it!
Ze french accent ‘as disappeared!
Accents are tricky- I wanted to avoid something that is hard to read so I’ve gone for ‘occasional French words’ as opposed to ‘ze’ everywhere.
This is a more elegant solution indeed. I really laughed reading the previous page. I was like “what the hell is wrong with Ellen’s voice ?!” and then I realized this is how we sound to English ears :-$
To support Tab’s choice here, since I worked out she was french Ellen has always had a french accent when speaking in my head, so ‘ze’ etc isn’t really needed. I suspect I’m not alone in this either.
I sometimes think people try too hard when you see “I ‘ad a ‘ard time finding ze train. Your Eeenglish train sta’ions are tres confusing!”
I like this Ellen. She enjoys Dr. Who and is quite amiable.
