Shades After Page 100
This Friday I’ll be posting the final page of Shades of A over on my Patreon, ending on lucky 113!
https://www.patreon.com/TabKimpton
For those of you who don’t know, Patreons who give $5 or more get 3 updates a week so they’ve steadily been getting further and further ahead- if you can’t wait I recommend checking it out!
The pages will continue as normal 2 times a week on Discord- at this rate you should get the end by the start of September, ready for the kickstarter launch for book 2 and a super sexy hardback omnibus edition.
My next project coincides with my move to Manchester- this friday I’ll own a house there, and with all the renovations I’m doing I’ve decided to move onto something using more traditional media so I can bring it with me wherever I am. I’ve decided to take a break from angst and just draw smut for a little while. My next series will be called Gay Buttlers/Sir, Butler and Boy which will last for about a year while I gather the feelings for a longer story.
TLDR
Shades is officially finished over on the patreon pages.
Shades will update on the main site like normal, Kickstarter for an omnibus to launch in septemeber.
I’m half moving to Manchester, still living in southampton, 6 hour journeys here I come.
Next project is basically just smut, and is called Gay Buttlers with two T’s. It will put the BUTT back in Buttler.
wait… there’s only 13 comics left? :((
… “debasing yourself for money.” He means the fact that he’s working as a cashier or something, right? I wouldn’t imagine that Momwar would tell any extended family about his relationship with Chris with her previous assumptions that War was being *paid* to be with him.
Page in mind: http://www.discordcomics.com/comic/shades-after-012/
She totally did that. She totally told extended family that Anwar is being paid by Chris. Ugh, I can’t believe people continue sticking up for Momwar ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)
Dude what part of your son barely into their twenties dating a man twice their age when you don’t understand the relationship dynamic can look a little sketchy at first? Yes she was wrong on all accounts and even she knows that now but at first I can totally understand why she would think her son might have gotten in over his head with something. Especially since it came out of left field and she thought he was straight the whole time. And obviously she’s regretting running her mouth now why won’t you cut Momwar a little slack, nobody in this comic is perfect, that’s what makes them all so real.
No. She doesn’t regret running her mouth. She regrets that her son may be moved to London.
I don’t need to cut Momwar any slack. Same as Andrew in the last page. Heck, I’d cut Andrew more slack than her, as he seemed to have misspoke out of a misunderstanding. Momwar has been actively been trying to get in between Anwar and Chris.
No she hasn’t! Oh my God what has she done to get in between him and Chris!?! Just because she wasn’t over the moon about him dating a man twice his age that makes her a horrible and unredeemable person? Even though she was quick to show her support and love for him as he finally came out to her and accepted his word that Chris was good for him and didn’t bother him about it since? Sorry but that is just ridiculous. She made one mistake, and it was out of a sense of protection for him, not meanness.
She makes a scene at Anwar’s graduation, then calls up extended family in a weepy panic about what she did wrong to have a son turn out like Anwar did… despite the fact he just graduated college.
This isn’t about her son dating someone older, it’s about her son dating an older man. And she hasn’t been supportive at all. Not in the least, RoL.
I agree with Gray here. She went behind Anwar’s back to fix his life for him, and that’s manipulative and disrespectful at the *very* least.
You’re certainly assuming a lot about Anwar’s mom with no evidence, Gray. “Debasing yourself” could very easily mean working at a job War’s family finds embarrassing, and I have no idea why everyone seems to be jumping straight to prostitution. Honestly, if a mother thought her kid was doing that, I really can’t imagine her first thought would be, “I better tell our whole family!” and I sincerely doubt Waheed would be saying it so casually. And if she thought Chris was paying Anwar, I think she would’ve said something more to Anwar. That was just a conclusion she jumped to in the shock of finding out that her son was not only dating a man, but a much older man. She didn’t bring it up again after War explained to her that that wasn’t at all what was going on.
Her only issue with their relationship is the age difference. That could not be more clear, and it’s very understandable. I don’t know why you’re so dead set on her being a homophobe, I don’t know why you’re so dead set on ignoring the fact that’s shes been trying to be supportive ever since she got over the initial shock of finding out, but it honestly seems like you have some sort of personal grudge against this fictional comic character.
“You’re certainly assuming a lot about Anwar’s mom with no evidence, Gray. “Debasing yourself” could very easily mean working at a job War’s family finds embarrassing, and I have no idea why everyone seems to be jumping straight to prostitution.”
Okay, I’ll give you evidence:

Also:
http://www.discordcomics.com/comic/shades-after-012/
That’s why. Because she did assume it was prostitution. And she did make calls.
“Her only issue with their relationship is the age difference.”
Wrong. She said very clearly, “Gay I could have learned to accept…”
This means she didn’t accept it. She only has recently accepted that “Chris is good for (Anwar).”
“I don’t know why you’re so dead set on ignoring the fact that’s shes been trying to be supportive ever since she got over the initial shock of finding out…”
She hasn’t been. She hasn’t been supportive at all. Not in the least bit.
“seems like you have some sort of personal grudge against this fictional comic character.”
No, nothing personal. I’m just disgusted by this fictional character, and I’m expressing it in the comments section.
guys, momwar is muslim and older… she’s been really accepting of anwar, even if she’s not the most supportive. it’s ok for parents to make mistakes so long as they learn from them. and i think she will learn thru this. imo i interpreted ‘debase yourself’ as working as a cashier / minimum wage worker.
A few pages later (http://www.discordcomics.com/comic/shades-after-016/) she’s on the phone, still upset, talking to someone about Anwar. We don’t know what she said about Chris in that conversation, but I doubt it was sunshine and roses.
I am of the opinion that Shades should not end. Then again, I thought the same thing about Khaos. I’ll give the Buttlers a chance.
Well hey there’s also the third book to work off of
Wait wait what? No seriously you had better be talking about being a cashier
Congrats Tab. I look forward to seeing a new adventure for you. And congrats on the house.
This is ending? :o so sad… But also it feels like the perfect time to end, probably because of the chill music I’m listening to…
…..OOOOHH… They’re not talking about the cashier job are they….. D:
Oh no, it really hurts my heart to know this lovely comic is ending, its nice to have someone to relate to even if they are fictional. There just isn’t enough ace representation in the world and not enough things that show religion in a positive light. Sigh I’ll miss this so much.
All good things must come to an end :C
Even if I don’t want them to. :C </3
Looking forward to the next project regardless though. <3
And her first protest is still that ‘War would be ‘taken away’ to London…
This makes me think she didn’t actually tell him about “Anwar being paid to have sex.” If she had told him in secret, which seems to be the case with Anwar’s reaction, I would think her first reaction would’ve been something like “SHHHH don’tsaythatinfrontofhim >A>” since by now she knows that Anwar isn’t sleeping with Chris for money.
That, or her seemingly growing acceptance has all been fake and she had no trust in the fact that Anwar was telling the truth this whole time, but I’d like to think that she truly did believe him. :/
I knew there wasn’t a great deal of SoA left but I didn’t know it was that close to finishing. That’s very sad.
Buuuut we’ll see what happens over the next few pages.
Mumwar here reminds me a bit of my mother in law actually. Her son, who had never moved away (there’s a story there but not really relevant), who had never even dated, suddenly upped and moved across the country to be with some guy he met on the Internet, who he had only been with a few months and who she hadn’t met. I think her opinion of me was decided then…
Also for some reason I thought this was set in London. I have NO idea why I thought that, as now I don’t recall any mention of where it’s set.
Something in the vague back of my mind says Birmingham.
I remember Anwar saying he (and his mother) were both born in Birmingham but for some reason I thought of that as a reason for it to not be set there. I guess because almost everyone I know moved away from where they were born?
But it could well be Birmingham; or it could be that Tab didn’t want it set in a specific place so it was purposely never specified.
I thought this was set in London because I’m an American and therefore automatically assume that England = London… -_-
I think it’s Southampton – particularly with the mention of Jesters earlier in the comic. I remember Jesters well from my student years…
All good stories must eventually come to an end. Here’s to a grand finale! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Ahem:
(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
My mum constantly says stuff that could be taken the wrong way. recently she complimented me on how clean the kitchen was, but to me all i herd was a dig implying i never clear up before she gets home and that at least i had done this once… im hoping this is just a misunderstanding regarding ‘debasing’ Anwar
it also might just be some good old fashioned classism on his folks’ part, and not an implication that chris is his sugar daddy or whatever. i’m an american of south asian descent who has been a service worker for half my life at this point, and my family’s always talking about things like my debasing myself at my job. not to imply that the cultures are the same or indistinguishable from each other, that’s just what this convo between anwar and his family reminded me of.
also as someone who used to do sex work, i think it’s a perfectly respectable job, if sometimes dangerous and psychologically erosive.
That sloshing tea makes me so nervous it’s gonna spill down her front.
I was expecting a spit take.
